Upcoming Events

Meetings are held quarterly with an Annual General Meeting - the Deacon's Choosing Meeting - held in September. After each general meeting, members retire to a local restaurant for a supper and conversation. The AGM is held on the third Friday in September in the morning and members, where possible, join the new Deacon for lunch.

On the last Friday in February, the Incorporation holds its Dinner and Dance, Speakers toast the city, the Trades House and the Incorporation, The Chain gang - the Deacon Convener and the Deacons of the other Crafts attend together with members and their guests in the Grand Hall of the Trades Hall.  The Box Opening Dinner is typically held in May, In years past, the Deacon would have the Craft's Box opened for audit. The heavy wooden box, locked with three keys, each given to the custody of Masters of the Incorporation, used to hold the paper assets of the organisation including all its cash. Today, the Deacon each year adds an item to commemorate their year in office.  

We present prizes at both the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian University for Medical studies, nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. In addition, the Incorporation holds a competition for Glasgow University Medic-Chirurgical Society and the Dental Department where students present their research papers on their elective subjects. The winner in each category receives the Incorporation of Barbers Prize certificate, life membership of the Incorporation and a monetary prize. All awards are presented by the Deacon at the New Members and Prize Winner evening held in January in the Trades Hall.

in 2017, the Incorporation sponsored a modern apprenticeship in barbering and its first receipient began his training in a barbershop in Rutherglen and study at the City of Glasgow College.
